Modus Vivendi, defined what a rambunctious sailing team meant, this side of the pond. A venerable team owning a few different sailing boats from a 80’s tonner through mid 90’s cool Mumm 36 to a small fleet of sport boats in the early aughts. This team too often partied harder than they sailed.
Then, sailing with hangovers the size of a cement truck in a force 7 gale, and winning is a grand feat in itself. The last of the Modus Vivendi boats was a spacious, wood paneled, breakdown prone fifty four foot cruiser. By the late aughts TV’s and microwaves, and “raki”, replaced bunk beds and cold, wet sandwiches.
If you wanted to listen to the stories of three decades of sailing it wasn’t a bad venue. This sail cruised and raced for Modus Vivendi between the easy weekend races of Hydra and Kythnos before cooly delivering the owner to quiet coves in Serifos and Sifnos during summer months.
